What is the Squamish Flying Club?

Celebrating it’s 50th Anniversary in 2020, the Squamish Flying Club established the Squamish Airport around 1970. While it no longer officially manages the airport operations, the not-for-profit society manages hangars, parking area, 100LL fuel system and clubhouse on leased land for its members and visiting pilots at CYSE. The club consists of an active group of aircraft owners and aviation enthusiasts from the Sea to Sky Region.

What levels of memberships are available?

There are Regular, Associate, and Junior memberships available.

What are the benefits to becoming a member?

- Fuel Discounts (-$0.10/L Regular Members, -$0.05/L Associate Members)
- Aircraft Parking & Hangars (as available)
- Social Events & Aviation Community
- Flying adventures with fellow members
- Show your support for the local airport and General Aviation

How much does it cost to become a member?

Regular Membership is $100/year with 4-hours of volunteer contribution ($300 without), plus a one-time initiation fee of $300.

Associate membership is $40/year with no initiation fee. This includes a fuel discount but does not qualify for parking seniority.

Junior membership is $15/year with no initiation fee for members 18 years of age and under.

Four hours of volunteer time…what’s that about?

We ask all our members to contribute a minimum of 4 hours of volunteer time each year in return for a lower annual fee. With building maintenance, grounds keeping, websites, community events and other projects, the club can either pay someone to provide these services or enlist members to achieve these goals. The SFC is a member-driven organization and members get out what they put in. Another way to think about it, is the club pays you $50/hr for your time!

Can anyone join?

If you are an aviation enthusiast, aircraft owner, pilot or aspiring pilot, we welcome new members! Associate memberships are open to anyone, while Regular memberships are restricted to people who have their primary residence in the Sea to Sky Region (Lions Bay to Whistler). The club is intended to directly benefit local aviators and be an asset to the local community of Squamish.

Aircraft Parking & Storage

The Squamish Flying Club manages parking facilities for member aircraft and visiting aircraft on land leased from the District of Squamish. This includes two hangar complexes and outdoor tie-down parking on the apron.

There is a significant waitlist for hangars currently due to limited supply. The club expanded the outdoor parking area in 2021/2022, however the club has seen dramatic growth in the past few years, so space is still near (or at) capacity. Hangar spaces are allocated based on membership seniority (Regular Members). If you’d like to get on the list for a spot, we encourage you to join and stake your claim on the list. The outdoor tie-down parking is available to Regular Members on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is no other GA parking available on the field at this time.

Great…how do I join?

Associate and Junior memberships are easy – fill out the online form and we will get back to you with confirmation and payment information.

Regular memberships go through an approval process which typically takes a couple weeks. Please submit a form and we will be in touch with more information. We highly encourage you to have another club member as a sponsor listed on the application. If you don’t yet know someone in the club, you are encouraged and always welcome at club events to meet everyone - that’s your best way to get approved! You can connect with local pilots on the Fly Squamish Facebook group too or reach out to the club to find out when the next social is.

I don’t have a plane, is it worth joining?

While many benefits are geared for aircraft owners, there are plenty of social opportunities for people who just want to be a part of the local aviation community. For those who rent aircraft, you’ll still have access to the facilities and fuel discount benefits as an Associate or Regular member.
